This paper examines the historical roots of the Greater Middle East Project, from the emergence of the term “Middle East” in Western political literature at the beginning of the 20th century, to the evolution of Western thinking on the establishment of a regional project in the Middle East, shaped by American and British strategic, oil, and commercial interests in the region, as well as by the objectives of ensuring the success of the project to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine and safeguarding it, and by the Soviet threat to the region.
